Jewellery Care

BRACELETS

Our jewellery is designed to be worn and loved. Each Serena Green bracelet is made from the highest quality materials. Our gemstones are cut from natural sources and the use of hairsprays, lotions, colognes or perfumes can alter the natural state of the materials used. For this reason our bracelets are highly sensitive to water and wearing them while sleeping, showering, exercising, or in a pool or sauna should be avoided. These elements can weaken the silk or elastic cords that hold the bracelet together and can contribute to breakage if not cared for properly.

To ensure the longevity of your Serena Green stretch beaded bracelet, ROLL the bracelet on or off your arm, rather than pull, stretch or tug on the beads. Repetitive tugging and pulling can cause the elastic to weaken over time and should be avoided. To maintain the beauty of your beaded bracelets, we recommend cleaning the beads by using mineral oil that has just been wiped off with a soft, white cloth.

NECKLACES

Just like other fine chains, our necklaces can be delicate and should be treated with the utmost care. Do not pull or tug on them. Chains should be treated delicately in order to prevent damage.

STERLING SILVER

With proper care your sterling silver jewellery will last a lifetime. All sterling silver will tarnish over time, but it will happen much faster when it comes into contact with agents such as perfume, salty air, sulphur, skin creams, hairspray, chlorine and acidic skin ph. The amount of tarnishing (oxidation) that occurs is dependent on the skin and care habits of the wearer. Tarnishing is therefore not a manufacturing fault. We also recommend that you do not wear your jewellery whilst bathing, whilst in bed or during sporting activities.

Sterling silver charms, beads and SG tags can be cleaned using the silver polishing cloth we provide with every purchase. Please do not tug on the bracelets when cleaning any silver findings. Some gentle rubbing with the polishing cloth should bring out the natural shine of the silver within a minute or two. Regular, light polishing should be enough to keep your silver tarnish free.

GOLD VERMEIL

Gold vermeil is a layer of gold over solid sterling silver, and requires a little care and attention. Our gold pieces are heavily coated in 18 carat gold over solid sterling silver. To be considered vermeil, the gold must be at least 10 carat and at least 1.5 microns thick. The gold layer will eventually fade with time, but when this happens it can be re-plated for a nominal fee at any jewellers.

As with our sterling silver pieces, always remove your gold vermeil jewellery when applying scent, lotions and potions, or even better, always put your jewellery on last when getting dressed. Never wear your gold vermeil jewellery in the shower or when swimming. Chlorine, especially at high temperatures, can permanently damage or discolour your gold vermeil jewellery.

Do not use a silver polishing cloth on gold vermeil. We recommend using a soft cotton cloth and polishing gently.

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY JEWELLERY?

We include an anti-tarnish tab inside every sealed plastic bag, but these will only last for up to 12 months. Ideally, jewellery should be stored away from natural sunlight and heat, in a protective (lined) jewellery box or a tarnish resistant pouch. It can also be stored in a plastic zip lock bag made of Mylar or polyethylene. Never use polyvinyl plastic bags, such as bin liners as they contain sulphur compounds, which will make sterling silver tarnish faster. Do not store your jewellery in the bathroom.
